The organization of identity
DUALISMEXPERIENCE

Pain represents the repercussions - the effect in a causal interaction. It is felt after you have already lost a part of yourself. When you touch the hot stove, the cells hovering the surface of your self-defined bounded being are no longer a part of the living self - that which is capable of existing in extended duration - before this living self registers such event, experiencing the pain. If you were to argue the alternative sequence, I think that would be beyond the point as the event occurs, that interaction is observed independent of the need for sequential definition, and neither argument serves to change such of the immediate event. This leads to question that of "future events" - it seems similar logic may be applied across time scales. This pokes deep insight on the concept of determinism. I find it strange to be "here", "now" - such terms don't seem to appropriately capture the essence of the experience but a filtered subset, and what little sense does it make to approach the observation with an attitude brewing in spite, riddled with friction. It leads me to deeply empathize with my parts - that which would be naturally considered "within" and that "without".
And to the pain of the death of an ego - are you grieving? Do you feel joy? Are you recognizing what is and is not in association with the identity of truth? It seems to be a mechanism of sorting. If we consider the pattern beginning from nothing > identity > negation > separation > expansion : simply reaching identity, the birth of introspection, through thought itself, brings about negation and such the recognition of good (true) and evil (false). Truth exists for but a moment in absence of its negation. And thus being of one thing, also comes with recognizing that it is not all of one identity, through the natural duality that arises through conscious observation.
Thus in ego death, there is an active removal, separation, sorting, organization and recollecion of the self, and of the not self. This concentration of truth - pure goodness - salvation in christ. "Indeed we suffer with Him, so that we may also be glorified with Him" (Romans 8:17).
Oh how saturated these concentrations have become.
