What tools are waiting for you to remember them?

For a utility to be useful to a user, what must be true?

If I am to use a calculator, it is not necessary for me to understand how it is executing the computation. Helpful I understanding law? Science? Methods to expand across applications? Sure - this has a place of course, as does the infinite uses in which the utility can be applied. But if such aid exists, one thing that is seemingly indisputable is the "user" must believe in its existence first and foremost, and have some foundational grasp on its capability. If I don't know what a calculator is at a macro-level, how will I know to locate it? Therefore first I must consider its general characteristics, typically by intended functionality. Am I looking for a hand-sized tangible object, with buttons labeled with numbers and standard numerical operations? Maybe. That's certainly one (relatively "primitive") form of the utility, but if this is what you seek, you are now introducing a degree of mind-blindedness, limiting your perception through highly constrained assumptions. Now, such boundaries can be useful if the user's circumstances satisfy the conditions necessary to meet the immediate target, but this is inherently resource and duration limited. Expand the intended use across scenarios, across time - while considering an expanded set of conditions, the probability in which a physical hand-held calculator as previously described is accessible becomes quite low. If the user cannot expand their perception in consideration of the potential forms in which the utility can undertake, the utility, across all scenarios, becomes almost meaningless and is soon to be forgotten.

Now, consider the utility while peeling away the prior constraints associated with its form, what is the true need? To perform the arithmetic quickly and reliably? Well of course now that we've removed the limitation of expected physical form, this functionality is accessible to users in nearly all (if not all) computers (and many other forms but we will maintain simplicity for the effectiveness of the metaphor). Had the user not expanded their perception to remove prior biases of what a calculator should look like, and instead, focused on the functionality in which it should behave, they may still be searching for a device with physical buttons to this very day! An appropriate exaggeration considering the rapid technological innovation in recent years.

This very common example pokes consideration across a vast set of subject matter, but I'd like to draw specific attention to that of Christ. Prior conceptions of utilities limit us from seeing the utility directly within our reach to aid us in that which we seek. Likewise, when one considers what it means for Christ to reveal truth, to transform, to provide salvation - will we get caught trying to decompose the blessing ("utility" when considering the calculator metaphor)? Will we rigidly expect to understand the "how" before experiencing mercy and grace? This is nonsense - we hardly understand anything at all. It's a miracle some of the feats science and engineering have accomplished in providing the repeatable solutions we have today. We know so little of the sample of molecules in which we average to report a temperature that is used to assess the appropriate attire to comply with the environmental conditions and provide comfort. The "how" - this is an infinite chase. Fruitful. Useful. Fulfilling to some. But it is important to recognize this is an appreciation of the law, and not necessary for use of an existing utility.

So like the calculator, when we seek the blessing, what assumptions are choking our ability to perceive that which is the blessing we seek, directly within reach? John 4:35 - ""Don't you have a saying, 'It's still four months until harvest?' I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.""

Stop white knuckling the "how" - Christ is knocking to show you. Loosen your grip on the limitations, Christ is waiting for you to let Him transform them into paths. Belief is not ignorance, given the foundation in which you are believing in is that which is true. Innovation would not exist without rediscovery of existing forms, and to this day, the "how" behind that rediscovery remains a mystery within the theory of modern man. Metanoia - salvation through Christ is expanding, and you cannot begin to understand the depths of that which Christ holds, hands wide open, until you resonate with such faith.
